Do Silk Sleep Masks Work?

A good quality silk sleep mask isn't cheap and I know that if you're spending that much money on a product you want to know if it really works so, do silk sleep masks work?

Sleep is vital to everyone's life. If you don't get enough sleep, it's difficult to function and complete everyday tasks. Around 38% of UK adults don't get enough sleep - this is almost 20 million people!

On average, adults need around 7-9 hours sleep a night but many of us say we don't feel rested when we wake up. Lack of sleep can affect our mood, our memory and concentration levels. It has also been linked to some health conditions including obesity, diabetes and heart disease. I know personally that when I'm tired I struggle to concentrate, get grouchy easily and am drawn to sugary snacks and treats, which in turn make me feel sluggish.

So how can a silk sleep mask help you?

1. Blocks out light

As the mornings are now getting lighter, no one like being woken up at 4.30am and then struggling to get back to sleep. A sleep mask helps to eliminate external light and total darkness boosts your body's melatonin levels and send you to sleep quicker.

2. Improved quality of sleep

As a sleep mask will eliminate external light, this will mean your quality of sleep is improved as you aren't being woken throughout the night.

3. Gentle on your skin

Silk is a super soft natural material and won't irritate the skin. As the skin around our eyes is very delicate, it's important that sleep masks won't tug or irritate it which is why silk is the ideal material.

Silk sleep masks are also suitable for those who suffer from sensitive skin or eczema as the gentle material will soothe the skin and not cause irritation.

4. Moisturise the eyes

Silk is naturally moisturising so it's perfect to use around your eyes. The tightly woven fabric keeps moisture close to the skin and stops it from drying out. This will also help you look refreshed in the morning and with continued use during the night, it can also help to reduce dark circles and fine lines. Why use expensive face and eye creams and then a non-silk face mask which won't aid your skincare routine?
